"From 30,000 feet Eastern Colorado looks pretty flat. At 70 miles an hour it looks like rolling hills, but on foot it looks more like a washboard. No flat areas, just up and down, with each peak about a mile apart. It would be easier without the cart pushing me forward on the down slopes and pulling me back on the up slopes. A friendly truck driver (I didn’t get his name) told me it will be like that all the way to Anton-- about 30 peaks away. Right now, I’m taking a break on what I would estimate to be peak 20.
"For the second day in a row, Francisco, a young man who hauls wheat East to West on Rte. 36, pulled his semi over to give me an ice-cold bottle of water (liquid gold) and to talk. Yesterday we talked for about 5 minutes. Today we talked for about an hour. We talked about Intergenerational Justice, about our kids and our personal hopes for the future. We took some pictures and hugged, and then he went back to driving and I headed for the next peak."
